Now, more than ever, it is Time to Deliver on Trans Human Rights!!!
The Trans Lobby Group stridently supports C-279 legislation to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act to include “Gender Identity” as a prohibited ground of discrimination and in the Hate Crimes provision of the Criminal Code.
It is very clear that there is an overwhelming need to include “Gender Identity” as this will provide crucial and necessary protection to trans people, who include but are not limited to transsexual and transgender persons.

The second Hour of debate was heard today on Bill C-279 an Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code (gender identity, but now to remove gender expression)

Celebrating Rev Dr Cheri DiNovo who 40 yrs ago was the only woman in Canada to sign on to 'We Demand" a petition for 'gay' rights on Parliament Hill.
This year Toby's Law was enacted and in between she won a Lambda in Washington DC for her book and thesis on building an inclusive Church.

Trans Lobby Group members are thrilled that an Ontario Human Rights Tribunal has ruled that the surgical requirement for a change in the record of birth on legal documents is discriminatory towards trans people. In a decision just released, XY v. The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services confirmed what trans people have been saying all along.

Trans Rights are Human Rights!
Fact Sheet
-The Government of Canada needs to take a stand against transphobia and discrimination against trans people by amending the adding Canadian Human Rights Act to include “Gender Identity and Gender Expression”.
-Gender Identity would protect trans people (a term that includes, but is not limited to, transsexual and transgender persons). Gender Identity refers not to biological sex or sexual orientation, but the inner sense of being male or female.

The Trans Lobby Group condemns the negative advertising by the Institute for Canadian Values recently published by the National Post and Toronto Sunday Sun. This advertising is a mean-spirited attack directed specifically at trans people. Trans people include, but is not limited to; transsexual, transgender, intersex, and two spirit persons.

Question #1: Human Rights Amendment ‘Gender Identity’ Preamble: In 2000, the Ontario Human Rights Commission recommended “By adding the ground ‘gender identity’ to the Code, there would be no doubt legally or politically that transgendered people have the same protections as everyone else.” Eleven years later the Ontario Government has failed to adopt this recommendation. |

We Demand:
1. Explicit Trans Human Rights protection at Federal, Provincial, Municipal, & Territorial jurisdictions via the amending of human rights codes, acts, and hate crime provisions to include 'gender identity and gender expression'.
2. Access to health care for trans people across Canada; best delivered in community based settings wherever possible, including access to primary care, hormones, counselling, and sexual/genital reassignment surgery.

Trans Lobby Group Statement on Pride Toronto Weekend
The Trans Lobby Group will be Marching with the Official Pride Toronto Trans March, Dyke March, & Pride Parade as the Honoured Dyke March Group 2011. We recognize that Pride Toronto has many outstanding challenges, yet we also appreciate several recent advances in recent months to overcome these challenges. In the area of Trans Inclusion we acknowledge the creation of the Trans March, recruitment of Trans Coordinators, & the formation of a Trans March Committee.
